A heavy tactical police response locked down a local neighborhood early Sunday morning after reports of active gunfire brought multiple law enforcement agencies to an East Point townhome community.
The incident began around 2:00 a.m. when an East Point resident flagged down a patrol officer at a Citgo gas station on Stanton Road. The mother requested a police escort to her home within the Bayberry in The Villages of East Point subdivision, after her children called her in a panic reporting gunshots nearby.
Upon arrival at the townhome complex, responding officers immediately heard active gunfire coming from one of the residences. Officers took cover and called for emergency backup, triggering a massive multi-agency response.
The South Metro SWAT Team was deployed to the scene, alongside officers from the East Point, College Park, and South Fulton police departments. Tactical units quickly evacuated surrounding neighbors from their homes and established a perimeter around the building, attempting to establish contact with anyone inside.
SWAT operators secured a search warrant and breached the townhome. After a tactical sweep of the property, authorities confirmed the residence was entirely empty.
The East Point Police Department confirmed that no injuries or property damage were reported during the incident. The scene was cleared later Sunday morning, and the investigation into who fired the shots remains ongoing.
