The Libertad East Point To Bring 57 New Affordable Housing Units To The City’s Main Street Near The Langford Parkway Exit

A major new affordable housing development is officially moving forward in East Point. Libertad East Point, a planned residential community located at 2155 Main Street, the project was just recently announced after being selected by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for a 2026 Housing Tax Credit award.

The state agency selected the project for a highly competitive low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) allocation. The financial milestone clears a major hurdle for the development, providing the necessary funding mechanism to bring dozens of new affordable housing units to the local market.

The new community will sit near the Langford Parkway exit ramp close to a small plaza and BP gas station.

Local officials have frequently emphasized the growing need for attainable housing in the area. The Libertad East Point project is designed to help meet that demand, offering modern living spaces targeted at lower-income individuals and families.

The upcoming complex will feature direct proximity to downtown East Point and local transit routes. While a formal groundbreaking date has not yet been announced, the state’s tax credit endorsement ensures the project will now transition from the planning phase into active development.

Official rendering designs for Libertad East Point have not yet been publicly released.

The Springfield, Missouri based Vecino Group, which operates a hub in Atlanta, will spearhead the build. Vecino has completed other projects around the metro including Intrada Westside. The 143-unit affordable housing community on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway opened in November 2023 in partnership with Atlanta rap mogul T.I. and the City of Atlanta, featuring 25 units for homeless youth.

The company also oversaw the construction of the Trinity Central Flats. This is a mixed-use, affordable residential development near Atlanta City Hall (at 104 Trinity Avenue) in a joint venture with the Capitol Hill Neighborhood Development Corporation, currently under vertical construction.
