
Longtime political figure and current Georgia 13th congressional district Representative David Scott has died. The former Democratic State senator and State representative, who served in public office since 1975, was 80 years old.
Scott was born in Aynor, South Carolina 1945, and attended high school in Daytona Beach, Florida. He received a bachelor’s degree from Florida A&M University and a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Scott was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, according to an online biography.
But it was in Atlanta where Scott would be his legacy, serving in the State House from 1975 until 1983; he then served in the State Senate from 1983 until 2003. He won his Congressional seat and took office the same day his state term ended.
Representative Scott was known as an outspoken advocate for issues he cherished but had been quieter in recent years as rumors of declining health began to spread.
