Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chair Andrew Ferguson explicitly stated his support for administration efforts aimed at protecting White American men from discrimination during a press conference on Thursday.
Speaking alongside Vice President JD Vance at an event focused on alleged abuses within federal work visa programs, Ferguson commended the current trajectory of civil rights enforcement.
He specifically lauded U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) Chair Andrea Lucas, praising Lucas for confronting systemic issues that “previous EEOCs refused to touch,” pointing directly to federal initiatives designed to safeguard White male workers and defend American citizens against national origin discrimination.
“I also want to acknowledge the work of Andrea Lucas, who is the chairman of the EEOC,” Ferguson said. “She is the greatest chairman of that institution, since Clarence Thomas back in the 1980s.”
“On every issue that previous EEOCs refused to touch: protecting White American men from discrimination, protecting American citizens from national origin discrimination … she has led the EEOC headlong to defend Americans from these abusive practices.”
Lucas has been outspoken in in her effort to defend White men who say they face discrimination that the Trump administration has yet to comprehensively prove exists against White men the American workplace: According to a long-term analysis of historical EEOC tracking data, White men (who make up roughly 46% of the U.S. labor force) submit a consistent minority share of civil rights complaints.
The Breakdown
Sex Discrimination: White men file approximately 10% of all sex-based discrimination complaints.
Race Discrimination: White men file roughly 9% of all race-based discrimination complaints.
Sexual Harassment: White men submit about 11% of sexual harassment charges.
Other Categories: White men account for about 11% of general complaints related to other protections, most frequently citing age or disability discrimination.
“Are you a White male who has experienced discrimination at work based on your race or sex?” Lucas said in a video posted to social media last year. “You may have a claim to recover money under federal civil rights laws.”
A Shift in Civil Rights Enforcement
The remarks underscore a broader, coordinated shift within federal regulatory agencies under the current administration. Under Lucas’s leadership, the EEOC has increasingly prioritized challenges to corporate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) frameworks. Lucas has previously utilized public messaging to encourage white male employees to file federal civil rights claims if they believe corporate diversity policies have resulted in employment bias based on race or sex.
FTC Corporate Restructuring
Ferguson’s comments align with his own record since taking the helm at the FTC. Upon assuming leadership, Ferguson moved rapidly to dismantle internal diversity structures within the commission. His actions included:
Eliminating the FTC’s DEI Office: Dissolving the dedicated division responsible for diversity initiatives.
Terminating the Diversity Council: Ending the internal advisory group, while publicly labeling corporate and institutional DEI programs a “scourge on our institutions.”
The joint appearance with Vice President Vance signals continued executive backing for these administrative rollbacks, cementing a federal policy pivot away from traditional affirmative action frameworks and toward the protection of majority demographics under civil rights law.
The Unemployment Numbers
Demographic Comparison (As of late 2026):
While White men experienced a minor labor market tightening early in the second term of President Donald Trump, they continue to face significantly lower unemployment rates than other demographics affected by recent administrative rollbacks and federal job cuts.
According to employment research, White men as of October 2026 have an unemployment rate of 3.6%, tying Asian workers (3.6%).
Hispanic workers are at 5.3% and Black workers are at 7.5%–more than double the rate of White and Asian workers.
