Here’s a flashback to Atlanta, 1991. Local kids group, Another Bad Creation, took the charts by storm on the strength of a Hip Hop heavy, New Jack Swing sound coupled with young but strongly talented voices.
David Shelton, Romell Chapman, Demetrius Pugh, Marliss Pugh, Christopher Sellers and Adrian Witcher were discovered by Michael Bivins of Bell, Biv, DeVoe, who were close with the mother of one of the boys. Once in the studio, magic was created and before the year was over, ABC had Top 10 hits–and an album that would eventually go double platinum.
ABC’s success came in an era when other young acts, such as The Boys, Immature, and Atlanta rap duo Kris Kross also achieved major label success.
ABC, with their early 90s impact, are a part of the story of Atlanta’s takeover of Black and Hip Hop music, which began in the 90s.
