Democrat Keisha Lance-Bottoms Calls Out Republican Rick Jackson’s Visits To Black & Minority-Owned Businesses: “Don’t Let People Piss On Us, And Then Tell Us It’s Raining”

Democratic nominee for Georgia governor Keisha Lance-Bottoms put her perspective on her opponent, Republican Rick Jackson’s, visits to Minority-owned business in the metro Atlanta area into blunt terms though an Instagram post that she shared yesterday.

“Don’t let people piss on us, and then tell us that it’s raining”, said the former Atlanta mayor, who secured her party’s nomination without the need for a runoff in May. Lance-Bottoms was addressing Jackson’s visit to a Mexican restaurant in Doraville, a Black-owned barbershop in College Park, and his visit to a popular restaurant owned by a Black woman in Buckhead–all of which were captured on camera and circulated across social media.

Lance-Bottoms reminded viewers that Rick Jackson has promised to deport undocumented individuals and has also expressed interest in criminalizing DEI facilitators.

“This guy’s going into a Black-owned restaurant owned by a woman and he’s saying he wants to criminalize people who promote DEI programs”.

She then added, “This is a guy who has gone into a Black barbershop and says he wants to be Donald Trump’s favorite governor, Trump with a Southern tone”.

Jackson, a healthcare entrepreneur reportedly worth more than $3 billion, ran a primary campaign promoting his support for President Trump and Trump’s polices, including on DEI and immigration enforcement.

Jackson drew social media attention when he appeared at several Black-owned businesses over recent weeks. But many social media users heavily criticized not just the business owners themselves but the people included in the photos. They say Jackson’s promise to govern in Georgia in the same right wing conservative way that Trump has governed nationally is not what the state’s Black community, which is 1/3 of the states’s population, needs in order to prosper.

The restaurant owner who took a photo with Jackson at her establishment later posted on Instagram that the session did not equate to an endorsement of Jackson, who later removed the post featuring the two of them from his social media accounts.

A poll released yesterday by State Navigate shows Lance-Bottoms with a 7 point lead over Jackson.

If elected in November, Keisha Lance-Bottoms will become Georgia’s first first Black governor, its first female governor, and the nation’s first Black woman governor.

The election is November 3.
