“Atlanta Jams” was a popular local television show from the early 1990s. The program broadcasted high school teenagers partying and dancing at metro Atlanta teen nightclubs, such as Club XS on Moreland Avenue and Club 559 in the West End. It became a positive cultural touchstone for local youth looking to have safe fun while hoping to catch themselves and their friends on television.
The show aired on WATL Channel 36 and was hosted by local personalities, including Carol Blackmon. The gatherings occurred midday into the evening and provided a massive opportunity for teens to socialize outside of school.
Beyond just broadcasting dancing, this show and its dance parties played a vital community role in the early 90s, helping to incubate Atlanta’s emerging hip-hop scene.
