A human skull was discovered by a passerby in an East Point neighborhood wooded area, triggering an active police investigation.
The Georgia Emergency Search and Rescue team, local police, and the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office deployed cadaver dogs to search the surrounding property, but they did not find any additional skeletal remains. The identity of the individual, the cause of death, and the length of time the remains were in the woods are currently unknown.
Authorities hit on a specific area to collect trace evidence, but no other body parts have been located.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner is reviewing open missing persons cases in the region to cross-reference dental records and DNA.
Derrick Samuel Death Investigation
This discovery follows a separate, resolved case in the same city from June, where the remains of missing 20-year-old Derek Samuel were found in a wooded area behind the Reserve at Redwine subdivision. Authorities have not linked this new skull to that case.
Law enforcement officials have not released any additional details at this time.
