Atlanta Singer Nivea Reveals Leukemia Diagnosis: “I’ve Been Going Through Treatment”

Grammy-nominated R&B singer Nivea, 44, has revealed that she was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year. During an appearance on the Cadillac Chronicles series, the “Don’t Mess With My Man” vocalist shared that she has been undergoing treatment for several months and credits her faith for her positive outlook.

A New Perspective on Life and Music
Rather than letting the diagnosis slow her down, Nivea said the health scare has fundamentally altered her perspective and pushed her to live in gratitude.

“Everything has been put into perspective… I live in gratitude, like, religiously, and I’m just grateful for everything,” Nivea shared during her drive on Cadillac Chronicles. The artist confirmed that her medical treatments are going well and she expects the positive progress to continue.

Nivea, an Atlanta native, also emphasized that her diagnosis has reignited her passion for the entertainment industry. Instead of putting her career on pause, she is proactively expanding her skill set.

“I’m definitely back into my music, and I’m going to school for audio engineering,” Nivea said. “I’ve always wanted to learn how to engineer, and mixing engineering in particular.”

Family and Fan Support
Nivea—a mother of four who shares three children with ex-husband The-Dream and a son with rapper Lil Wayne—is also using this time to focus on her loved ones and make the most of every opportunity that comes her way.

Since the interview aired, fans and supporters across social media have flooded the singer with messages of encouragement, praying for her full recovery and celebrating her resilience.

Understanding Leukemia
Leukemia is a group of blood cancers that originate in the body’s blood-forming tissues, primarily in the bone marrow, where abnormal white blood cells are produced. Common warning signs and symptoms can include fatigue, bone and joint pain, frequent infections, unexpected weight loss, and recurrent nosebleeds. While Nivea has not publicly specified the exact type or stage of her leukemia, she remains focused on her daily progress and her renewed musical goals.
