The identity of the East Point woman who was shot in an unsolved act of violence has been revealed by police officials: Dorothy Gordon, a 75-year-old beloved community volunteer, was shot on Wednesday morning, July 15, 2026, while distributing food to people in need in East Point, Georgia.
Ms. Gordon was shot and injured shortly after 9:00 a.m. in the parking lot of the Chevron station in the 3800 block of Washington Road near Camp Creek Parkway.
Gunshots reportedly erupted in the area while Ms. Gordon was actively handing out food. Community members noted that she frequently delivered bread to people in need a couple of times a week.
Emergency services initially responded to a report of a fall injury. But responding firefighters realized Gordon, who was laying on the ground, had been shot.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Her current condition has not yet been publicly released.
A Shooting With No Suspect–Or Known Motive
Investigators do not yet know who fired the gunshots or what motivated the shooting. No suspect descriptions or names have been released by police however, detectives believe several people were in the area at the time and may have witnessed the gunfire. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward to help identify those responsible.
Many nearby residents have expressed concerns about loitering and possible drug activity in the immediate vicinity around the station.
An outpouring of support for Ms. Gordon is rapidly forming on social media from people across the metro area, outraged that a 75 year old woman would be shot while passing out food to people who need it.
