Water Safety Finally Returns As Boil Water Advisory Lifted

The City of East Point finally lifted its boil water advisory–hours after it urged residents to keep boiling their drinking water.

The City had stated previously that it would not lift the advisory until all appropriate testing had been undertaken. That has been accomplished, which is welcome news to residents who for days had no water only to get it but then be afraid to drink it.

For days, countless East Point residents endured water-less homes. Residents and local leaders kicked in to organize free water distribution points to help community members get through the ordeal which for some lasted a lot longer than expected after road work and pipe repair turned into felt like a humanitarian crisis.

Here’s the city’s announcement from yesterday:

Great news, East Point!

The City of East Point Water Resources Department has officially lifted the Boil Water Advisory. Water quality testing has confirmed that the city’s drinking water is safe for normal use.

Residents may now:

Drink water directly from the tap

Use water for cooking and preparing food

Make and use ice

Resume normal hygiene activities, including brushing teeth, bathing, and washing hands

We sincerely appreciate the patience, understanding, and cooperation of our residents throughout this event. Thank you for working with us as our crews completed the necessary repairs and testing to ensure the safety of our community’s water supply.
