Fulton County is launching a major poll worker recruitment drive to secure voting locations ahead of the upcoming midterm elections, and the county’s Department of Registration and Elections has announced targeted outreach events aimed at signing up residents to administer early voting and Election Day operations.
National Poll Worker Recruitment Day is August 11, which coincides with the county’s push to recruit new staff.
Local officials are hosting recruitment hubs across various municipal locations. Representatives are actively vetting applicants directly at central community locations, including:
- The Fulton County Government Center Atrium (Atlanta)
- Adams Park Library (Atlanta)
- Roswell Road Library (Roswell)
- Alpharetta Library (Alpharetta)
- St. Luke’s Episcopal Church (Atlanta)
Critical Election Day Responsibilities
Selected workers will oversee vital operational logistics across voting locations. Responsibilities for hired personnel include:
- Opening and preparing polling precincts.
- Checking in registered voters using designated electronic Poll Pads.
- Issuing ballots and detailing formal voting procedures.
- Troubleshooting and assisting voters with ballot-marking devices.
Compensation and Job Framework
Fulton County has structured its openings into two independent tracks depending on worker availability and interest:
Advance Voting Workers: Hired through a specialized hiring agency, Abacus Staffing, rather than directly. Pay ranges reportedly range from from $17 to $23 per hour, plus available overtime. Positions are mostly full-time for a four-week block, requiring 12-hour shifts during weekdays and variable weekend hours.
Election Day Poll Workers: Hired directly by the Fulton County Registration and Elections Department. Compensation is structured as a flat fee reportedly ranging from $275 to $400 per day, which includes compensation for mandatory training. You must commit to a single long shift from 5:00 a.m. to roughly 11:00 p.m.
Eligibility and How to Join
To qualify for either track, applicants must meet specific age, citizenship, and language requirements. Georgia state law may allow individuals residing in neighboring border counties—such as Cobb, DeKalb, Gwinnett, and Clayton—to apply under certain conditions.
Interested residents can complete a digital application directly via the official Fulton County Government Poll Worker Portal. For real-time updates or inquiries, candidates can contact the elections office at 404-612-7020.
