The East Point FY 2027 Budget Is Scheduled To Be Approved On August 17th; Ethics Board Member Dropped After He Was Determined To Be Ineligible: Highlights From Last Night’s Council Meeting (Video)

Last night, the East Point City Council held its scheduled meeting last night.

Here are two major, quick highlights:

One of the outcomes of the meeting was the announcement that the City FY 2027 budget will be implemented on August 17th. The city’s budget was set to be implemented on June 30 but disputes over what was left out of the budget, including senior cuts, promoted Councilmembers from Wards C and D to hold additional community budget town halls in order to get appropriate information to the public.

Ethic Board member Jeremy Taylor of Ward C was removed from the Board last night in a majority vote by Council.

Taylor was nominated for his Board appointment by Ward A At-Large Councilmember Japera Hemming, who was, according to open records obtained by The East Point News, aware that Taylor was not eligible to serve on the Board at the time of his appointment, per the City Attorney. However, Hemming moved forward with Taylor’s appointment anyway, which has stirred controversy, and potentially opens Hemming up to State ethics complaints.

In order to comply with the City’s Charter, the Council opted to remove Taylor.
