Boil Water Advisory Issued For East Point After Water Main Rupture: East Point Residents Urged To Boil Water Before Drinking, Cooking Or Brushing Teeth

The City of East Point Water Resources Department has issued a “Boil Water Advisory” for all residents as a precautionary measure to ensure resident safety.

The advisory was issued at approximately 6:50 AM after a major line ruptured, causing water pressure to drop across the city’s water system.

The incident caused the complete closure of Headland Drive between Plantation Drive and Graywall Street due to road safety hazards. Crews are actively working to repair the break and restore normal system operations.

Required Health Precautions

Residents and businesses must follow these safety protocols until the city officially lifts the advisory:

Boil tap water vigorously for at least one full minute before using it to drink, cook, brush teeth, make ice, or prepare baby formula.

Use bottled water as a safe alternative if you are unable to boil tap water.

Discard any ice made during or after the morning of July 11; ice made prior to the advisory remains safe if kept frozen.

Wash hands with soap and tap water as normal, as standard hand-washing remains safe for hygiene.

Take sponge baths for infants and young children to ensure they do not accidentally swallow tap water.

The advisory will remain active for at least 24 hours while water quality teams complete repairs and run necessary microbiological testing. The Georgia Environmental Protection Division must review the lab samples and clear the water system before the city can lift the notice.
