Black Pride Gets Fully Underway In The Metro: The Event Features Poetry Slam, Music, And More Celebrating The Black LGBT+ Community: More Than 100,000 People Expected To Attend Various Events

Tens of thousands of visitors are pouring into the city as Atlanta Black Pride Weekend 2026 officially kicks off its historic 20th-anniversary celebration. As the largest Black LGBT+ Pride celebration in the world, the multi-day event is expected to draw more than 100,000 attendees and inject an estimated $65 million into the local economy.

Running through Labor Day weekend from September 2 to September 7, 2026, this year’s landmark anniversary features a robust lineup of advocacy workshops, cultural showcases, and star-studded entertainment.

A Weekend of Culture and Community Advocacy

Organizers have curated a diverse schedule blending nightlife with community empowerment. On Sunday, September 6, Grammy-nominated spoken word artist Queen Sheba will host the annual Poetry Slam & R&B Brunch at The Starling Atlanta Midtown from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM.. The event is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

This year’s brunch will feature 10 poets who will have the opportunity to compete for a $1,000 prize. 

“At its core, the anniversary is about much more than competition,” Sheba said in a press release. “For two decades, the brunch has stood on a simple belief: our stories deserve a stage. Spoken word can make a room laugh. It can make people uncomfortable. It can tell the truth. It can create understanding between strangers. And during Pride, it can remind us that despite all the ways the world attempts to divide us, love unites all.” 

Later that day, the weekend’s crown jewel—the Pure Heat Community Festival—will take over the city from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Beyond live music and celebrity appearances, the outdoor festival serves as a critical health and wellness hub. Major organizations, including Gilead and MISTR, will be on-site providing free, accessible HIV and STI screenings to attendees.

The celebration also extends deep into Atlanta’s nightlife, featuring massive curated dance parties like Overly Loaded and Pressure. On Saturday night, September 5, the Atlanta Eagle will host a spotlight performance celebrating the birthday of legendary local drag icon Shawnna Brooks.

Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Festival-Goers

While spirits are high, local officials and the weather forecasters are urging festival-goers to exercise extreme caution due to dangerous weather conditions.

A severe heat warning is in effect for Saturday afternoon, with heat indices projected to climb as high as 105°F. While there is a minor 30% chance of isolated showers, the oppressive heat remains the primary safety concern for outdoor events.

Festival organizers are heavily emphasizing safety, advising all attendees to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and utilize shaded or air-conditioned cooling zones setup throughout the event spaces wherever possible.
