The Atlanta Dream stand on the precipice of sports supremacy. Following a commanding 97-71 victory over the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday night on their home turf, the Dream have taken a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven WNBA Finals, leaving them exactly two wins away from capturing the first championship in franchise history.
A raucous, sold-out crowd at State Farm Arena witnessed a masterclass in postseason basketball. Atlanta completely dismantled the expansion Valkyries, breaking a 1-1 series deadlock and seizing full momentum of the historic matchup.
Reese Anchors Historic Night
The charge was led by none other than Angel Reese, the 2026 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year. Reese continued her dominant postseason campaign by pouring in 21 points and ripping down 12 rebounds.
With the performance, Reese etched her name into the league record books as the first player in WNBA history to record a double-double in each of her first three Finals games. Her relentless energy on the glass and paint protection completely neutralized Golden State’s interior game.

Banishing the Ghosts of Finals Past
For longtime Atlanta basketball fans, this moment has been more than a decade in the making. The franchise is desperately seeking to rewrite a painful history of near-misses, having reached the WNBA Finals three times previously—in 2010, 2011, and 2013—only to be swept out of the championship round each time.
This 2026 squad, however, feels entirely different. Blending fierce defensive tenacity with explosive offensive depth, the Dream look poised to finally bring the trophy home to Georgia.
Standing in their way are the resilient Valkyries. In just their second season of existence, Golden State is chasing an unprecedented milestone of its own. But after being blitzed by 26 points in Game 3, the expansion team faces immense pressure to make quick adjustments.
Game 4 Looming
The Dream have a golden opportunity to push the Valkyries to the brink of elimination on their home floor. Game 4 is scheduled to tip off this Saturday, October 24, at 1:00 PM ET at State Farm Arena.
If Atlanta can protect its home court once more, they will head back to San Francisco with a chance to close out the series and cement their legacy as champions.
