Officers Responding To Call In East Point Involved In Crash, Hospitalized: Elderly Occupant Of Other Vehicle Also Taken To Hospital: Georgia State Patrol Assumes Investigation

Two East Point police officers and an elderly driver were hospitalized Monday afternoon after a patrol cruiser collided with a passenger vehicle at a busy intersection.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Norman Berry Drive and Cleveland Avenue.

According to police, an East Point officer and a recruit officer were responding to an urgent call to assist another officer who was on the scene with a suspicious person with an active arrest warrant. The patrol vehicle was traveling southbound on Norman Berry Drive with its emergency lights and sirens activated.

As the cruiser entered the intersection, it struck the passenger side of a westbound Toyota driven by an elderly motorist. The impact of the collision sent both vehicles off the roadway.

Emergency personnel from Grady EMS arrived quickly on the scene to treat the injured. All three occupants—the officer, the recruit, and the elderly driver—were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital. The officer appeared alert while being loaded onto a stretcher, though officials have not released the specific conditions or identities of those involved.

The intersection was partially closed for several hours as emergency crews cleared the wreckage and investigators documented the scene.

The Georgia State Patrol has taken over the investigation to determine the exact circumstances and fault surrounding the collision.

There is currently no update on the status of the elderly driver nor the officers.
