Former NBA superstar Delonte West officially married his longtime girlfriend, Melissa Anaya, on October 16, 2026. The wedding marks a major personal milestone for the 43-year-old former athlete, arriving on a momentous day for his ongoing recovery and career comeback.
West broke the news early Friday morning via his official Instagram account, sharing a photo of himself alongside Anaya with a caption that read: “Delonte West Is Married!”
The wedding serves as a double celebration for the couple. In addition to exchanging vows, West is currently celebrating 11 months of continuous sobriety. Close friends and supporters have frequently credited Anaya as a vital pillar of stability throughout West’s highly publicized recovery journey. This union marks the third marriage for West, who was previously divorced from his first wife in 2010 and separated from his second wife, Caressa Madden, in 2020.
A Legacy on the Hardwood
The personal milestone offers a moment of reflection on West’s extensive athletic history. Long before making headlines for his personal struggles, West was a standout talent in the basketball world. Coming out of the hyper-competitive DMV basketball culture, West starred at Saint Joseph’s University alongside Jameer Nelson, leading the Hawks to a historic undefeated regular season and an Elite Eight appearance in 2004.

He was selected 24th overall in the 2004 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics. Over an eight-season NBA career, the gritty, two-way guard played for the Boston Celtics, Seattle SuperSonics, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Dallas Mavericks.
He is perhaps best remembered for his time in Cleveland, where he served as a reliable starter and key defensive presence alongside LeBron James during the Cavaliers’ deep playoff runs in the late 2000s. He made his final NBA appearance in 2012.
A New Chapter in the Ring
Following a turbulent decade marked by highly publicized battles with mental health, addiction, and homelessness, West has pivoted to a brand-new competitive arena while inspiring untold numbers of people with his amazing life story.
Tonight, just hours after his wedding, West is scheduled to make his professional boxing debut at Brand Risk 16 in Miami, Florida. The influencer-boxing event, promoted by prominent streamer Adin Ross, will see West face off against fellow former NBA veteran and No. 2 overall draft pick, Michael Beasley, in a highly anticipated heavyweight exhibition bout.

The matchup rekindles a decades-long rivalry between the two D.C.-area natives, who grew up playing against each other on the local streetball circuits and later teamed up internationally for the Shanghai Sharks in China.
During a heated pre-fight press conference, West drew both laughs and stark reminders of his resilience when asked about his training regimen. “I’ve been training for the last 10 years, living on the street, homeless as an addict,” West stated bluntly. “I’ll fight you over 20 cents. I’ve been beating old men up in the park for 10 years.”
For West, today represents far more than a return to the sports spotlight. Between exchanging wedding vows and stepping inside the boxing ring, October 16 serves as a public declaration of a long, hard-fought road back to stability.
The heavyweight fight card starts tonight at 8 p.m. ET and will stream live across various digital platforms.
