A New Chapter for Family and Community
The decision to step away from the morning anchor desk stems from a desire to prioritize family. Gant shared that he is looking forward to spending quality time with his mother and loved ones.
While he is leaving daily broadcasting, the local sports icon confirmed he has no plans to leave the city. He will remain in the Atlanta area to focus on his personal life, spend time on the golf course, and continue his ongoing community involvement with the Atlanta Braves organization.
From the Outfield to the Anchor Desk
Before transitioning to a successful media career, Gant was a household name in sports. He spent 14 seasons in Major League Baseball, most notably as an All-Star outfielder for the Atlanta Braves during their historic 1990s runs, where he joined the elite “30-30 club” by hitting 30 home runs and stealing 30 bases in back-to-back seasons.

In 2012, Gant joined FOX 5 Atlanta, trading his baseball uniform for a suit to help Atlantans wake up every morning. Over more than a decade, he became a beloved fixture of morning television, known for his warm presence and deep connection to the local community.
Station officials and colleagues have expressed deep gratitude for Gant’s dedication over the past 14 years, wishing him the best in his well-deserved retirement.
