The 2026 NFL regular season launched into history this weekend, leaving fans breathless after a high-scoring Sunday slate that shattered league records and delivered a primetime thriller.
Bears Make History in 59-Point Fireworks Show
The biggest story of opening weekend came out of Soldier Field, where the Chicago Bears orchestrated a historical blowout, defeating the Carolina Panthers 59-37. The combined 96 points set the all-time NFL record for the highest-scoring Week 1 game in league history.
Chicago’s revamped offense looked unstoppable, slicing through the Panthers’ secondary and putting the rest of the league on notice.
Giants Stun Cowboys on Sunday Night
In the weekend’s marquee primetime matchup, the New York Giants secured a thrilling 28-20 upset victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Entering the game as distinct underdogs, the Giants’ defensive front frustrated Dallas all night, making critical stops late in the fourth quarter to silence the home crowd and secure a crucial divisional win to open their campaign.
Extra-Time Drama and Final Scores
The afternoon slate provided no shortage of tension. In Detroit, the Lions outlasted the New Saints 31-30 in an overtime thriller that saw multiple lead changes.
But with second to go in overtime, the Saints made an effort to win the game by going for a 2-point conversion which failed, sending the Saints to 0-1 to start their season.
