Smuel Monroe, Jr., a talented actor best known for memorable roles in iconic films such as “Tales From The Hood” and “Menace II Society”, remains on life support and his condition has not improved, forcing his family to confront difficult conclusions, according to TMZ.

The 52-year-old actor’s family revealed that his critical condition is the result of severe medical complications from a long, grueling battle with meningitis.

A Tragic Medical Delay

According to his wife and medical power of attorney, Shawna Stewart, Monroe Jr. originally contracted the illness 18 months ago while filming a movie project in Las Vegas.

The family states that the infection went untreated for eight months due to repeated misdiagnoses across multiple hospital visits. By the time doctors accurately identified the meningitis, the life-threatening infection had already spread extensively to his brain and spine.

What is Meningitis?

Medical experts note that meningitis is an inflammation of the protective membranes (meninges) covering the brain and spinal cord. While early stages present with flu-like symptoms, fever, and neck stiffness, an untreated infection rapidly leads to permanent brain damage, vegetative states, or death. In Monroe Jr.’s tragic case, the eight-month medical delay allowed the infection to completely decimate his nervous system.

Current Medical Outlook

Monroe Jr. has undergone two major brain surgeries to combat the spread of the infection. However, his condition remains critical due to recent secondary health complications:

• MRSA Pneumonia: While hospitalized, the actor contracted a fast-moving strain of MRSA pneumonia.
• Brain Deterioration: Recent CT scans revealed that Monroe Jr. is suffering from encephalopathy, which has led to the deterioration of his brain tissue.

The family is currently facing agonizing care decisions, though no final medical directives have been made. According to TMZ, Monroe’s wife, Shawna Stewart, Monroe’s situation has deteriorated, forcing the family to face heartbreaking possibilities.

Stewart also told the news outlets Monroe’s left lung has partially collapsed.

As we reported … the actor has been battling for his life for months in the hospital … requiring multiple blood transfusions in a matter of days, as his body is decimated by MRSA pneumonia and meningitis, among other ailments. He’s been placed on dialysis.

We’re told Sam continues to have CT scans to monitor brain activity … but doctors feel he may end up in a vegetative state … and the family is struggling with making a very tough choice.
