Atlanta Falcons linebacker Jalon Walker suffered a season-ending torn ACL during an 11-on-11 drill at training camp on August 4, 2026. He went down in the backfield during a non-padded practice and had to be carted off the field. The team officially confirmed the diagnosis the following day.

Falcons outside linebackers coach John Timu told reporters Wednesday that Walker’s season-ending injury is a “huge loss.”

“When he comes in the room, we feel it,” Timu added.

The practice field turned emotional as Walker, who was selected in the first round by the Atlanta Falcons with the 15th overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, was carted off the field. It’s a huge medical and professional setback for Walker, a Conway, South Carolina native and former Georgia Bulldogs player who was on the squad that won the National Championship over TCU in 2023.

Walker was also the 2021 North Carolina Gatorade Football Player of the Year after recording 79 tackles and eight sacks.

It is estimated that Walker’s recovery period for his ACL injury could be 9 to 12 months, meaning Walker would not be eligible to play until next season.

It’s a tough rough ahead for not only Walker but also for the Falcons, who hoped to fully integrate Walker into the team’s new program under first-year coach Kevin Stefanski.

The Falcons will now turn to Plan B as it prepares for a new season without one of its toughest weapons on defense.
