Yesterday, the City of East Point was able to finally get the repairs done on the city’s water system–repairs that featured road closures and a days long ordeal where numbers of residents throughout the city went without water service in their homes.
And though the city’s response time and Facebook communication has drawn criticism, neighbors across the city chipped in a hand by providing bottled water to those who needed it, particularly residents who were taken by surprise by the extended service delay.
Shelves at local stores were cleared of water, causing alarm for the many residents who were unable to drink from their faucets, bathe, cook, or flush their toilets, causing for some not just an inconvenience but a health and sanitation crisis.
So the assistance of neighbors providing water was a welcome sight for many.
Some city councilmembers joined in the effort to distribute water as well, rolling up their sleeves to ensure the community got the critical resource. Councilmembers Latonya Martin Rogers and Andrea Caldwell from Ward D were spotted distributing bottles of water to the community and so were Councilmembers Tremayne Mitchell and Starr Cummings of Ward C.
Now attention turns to ensuring the city is able to more quickly address critical infrastructure problems and ensuring communication with residents.
